New Spring Subscriptions available... and other news from Season's Bounty Farm

Posted 4/2/2020 3:55pm by Radell Schrock.

Hello from Season's Bounty Farm!  The spring crops are off to an unusually good start this year with the recent gentle rains!  I don't ever remember a year where all the early crops looked so good at this point!

Some of you have been wondering how the vegetable subscriptions might be impacted by the precautions we are all needing to take in regard to Covid-19.  And since the Harrisonburg Farmers Market is temporarily shut down, we have also gotten questions about how to buy fresh produce from us between now and the start of our regular CSA season that starts the beginning of June.

1.  We are offering a new Spring Subscription which will be available on Mondays for the 7 weeks prior to our regular CSA season.  It will begin April 13th and go through May 25th.  It will likely consist of a variety of greens (lettuce, spinach, kale, chard) spring root crops (onions, radishes, carrots, turnips, beets) as well as some other crops like sweet potatoes (from storage), kohlrabi, broccoli, green garlic...depending on how the spring weather plays out...

The vegetables will be ready for pickup at the farm (2 miles north of Harrisonburg... address and directions are on our signup page) between 4-6pm on Mondays.  As an extra precaution with the Covid-19 virus, we will use bags instead of our signature crates so that no containers are returned to the farm.  One of us will be around for the first hour of the pick-up time (4-5pm) to hand your bag to you so you won't need to leave your car.

You can sign up on our website at seasonsbountyfarm.com

2. We are still planning to have the regular season subscriptions available at Wood's Edge Farm stand and The Friendly City Food Coop starting the beginning of June. Both locations have assured us that as long as they are able to stay open, we are more than welcome to have our vegetable subscriptions picked up there.  As June approaches we will be in touch with them about logistics, but we will likely have the vegetables available somewhere right outside the stores to cut down on risk for everyone.

3.  The Harrisonburg Farmers Market will be up and running again on April 11th with a very different format.  All purchases will need to be made online and will be picked up with a drive-thru arrangement at the market pavilion.  Check harrisonburgfarmersmarket.com for more details as the time approaches and for a link to the online ordering page.  We will have our products listed in a couple days.  Please note that all our orders for Saturday pickup at the market will need to be placed by Fridays 8am so that we have time to get the harvest lists made and the produce organized.

Thank you all for your support of our farm! Let us know if any other questions come up.  Stay well!

Blessings,

Radell

ps. You might receive this email twice if you were a subscriber last year too... sorry about that... my program isn't letting me combine the list of 2019 and  2020 subscribers...
