In 2006 Radell started looking into growing and selling vegetables as a way to earn money during the summers while teaching school, to help pay off college loans. What started as an idea for working outside in the dirt over summer vacation, quickly turned into a farming career. The wide variety of crops are grown without the use of any pesticides on 6 acres of land with fabulous soil along Linville Creek just north of Harrisonburg, VA. Radell and Sarah continue to sell the majority of their produce through their weekly CSA subscriptions, which have always been at the heart of how they connect their fresh produce with the local community. They also sell at The Harrisonburg Farmers Market on Saturdays and to local stores, farm stands and restaurants. It takes a whole team to keep up with the work during the spring and summer. With the help of Radell’s parents and a handful of seasonal crew members all carefully tending to the growing crops, the gardens produce literally tons of fresh, tasty, healthy vegetables and melons that are enjoyed by hundreds of households in the local community.
